Love It or List It

Love it or List It; does anyone else binge watch this show on Netflix like I do?  Granted, there is only one season on Netflix, but I have watched 4-5 episodes in a night before I realize it's midnight and I have to get up and work in the morning.  To be honest, I'm pretty addicted to any home renovation shows.

Recently, we found ourselves asking if we were going to love our current home or list it.  I sense there are many of you reading this right now who are facepalming wondering if we have lost our minds.  Yes, we have only lived in this house for a year and a half.  Once you have all recovered from the initial shock of us contemplating selling our house, I will explain.

Occasionally, I enjoy searching homes on the market to see what is out there.  In all honestly, we still can't get away from our love of older homes.  So, when a 150 year old house came on the market last week that had been restored inside, I was curious.  Obviously, that wasn't in the cards for us.  When we went to look at the house it was already sold.  We drove around in the neighborhood for an hour only to realize that homes in the area that meet our "criteria" are a rare gem.

After returning home with deflated hopes, we did a little soul searching.  Why were we even considering selling our house?  Yes, there are certain things about our home that wouldn't be our first pick, but there are a lot of good things about our home too.  We love the area of town we live in.  Within five minutes we can be at the gym, Target, several grocery stores, the mall, and many of our favorite restaurants.

Last Friday night, we sat down and went room by room talking about what we wanted to do in that room for decor.  In all honestly, part of the issue we both have with our home is that it doesn't feel complete.  As I said earlier, we have lived here a year and a half and there are only two or three rooms that have stuff on the walls.  There is really only one room I would call complete at the moment; the half bathroom.  Even that room there are changes we would like to make.

Several of the rooms we want to paint.  Several more we still need to find artwork we agree on; quite a task for the two of us.  Replacing flooring is also on the list for everything on the main and second floor.

We still have to discuss how we are going to go about revamping the rooms.  We may take each room one by one and set a budget.  There are some rooms we know wont get done for a while.  Take the kitchen for example.  Eventually, we would like to redo the cabinets.  However, for now I would settle for painting the walls and painting the cabinets if I can twist Andrew's arm.  In December, we replaced all the appliances in the kitchen since they were reaching the ten year mark.  We decided we would rather replace them while they were all still running and get what we wanted rather than wait until something wasn't running and get stuck with what they had in stock.  Re-flooring the entire main floor of the house is also on the list.  We would like to tear up all the carpet and put down wood laminate; much easier to keep clean with dogs.

For our complete list of to do's for the house, check out the house project page.  For now, we have realized we need to stop constantly looking for what is bigger and better.  We will love the house we are in and continue to make it our own.
