We Will Watch It Grow

I think I mentioned before that we were planning to plant a tree in the back yard that would eventually provide shade to the deck.  Since it finally cooled off enough to be outside and not feel like dying from the heat, we decided this was the weekend to plant a tree!

We picked out an Silver Linden tree.  We initially picked out a different type of Linden tree, but then we were told that it is highly attractive to the Japanese Beetles.  We didn't want to deal with keeping them at bay each year, so we went with a variety that they seem to leave alone.

It took a Bobcat to get the tree into the truck, and we thought we could get it to the backyard with no problem.  I'm not sure what we were thinking, but the tree made it to the back yard.  I'm sure our neighbors were entertained by us this weekend.

Here is the tree in the driveway.  We were able to bring it down out of the truck and then roll it to the backyard.  Andrew used a metal hook to grab on to the metal stakes in the root ball and pull it while I hung on to the trunk of the tree.  We managed to get it back to the hole we dug.

Alright, I just realized I forgot to take a true after picture, so I will try and get a picture tomorrow night for you.  The tree looks so good in its new home, and I can't wait to watch it grow.

We also worked on planting our privacy hedge for our fire pit area this weekend.  I didn't get a photo of the final planted bushes, so I will get that tomorrow as well.  We ended up planting eight Viburnum bushes.  We planted four Northern Burgundy Arrowwood Viburnum, and four Blue Muffin Arrowwood Viburnum.

I will be sure to post the final product tomorrow!
